Scott’s Project
1) What will you contribute to ISIS this quarter?
- Complete Phase 1 Implementation: I want to make sure we solidify the first phase system of Events at Stanford. This includes hiring a fine production team, installing at least 20 screens by December, and making sure we address web issues. Most importantly it means working with Nicole to ensure that people are using and enjoying the system. I might even get a bit of development time in there if Kyle puts me to work.
- Begin to Share the system: I hope to more thoroughly investigate how we might share the Stanford project with other universities. This includes detailed conversations with the ISIS team, the university, other universities, and our Big Three corporate partners (Coolsign, Apple, NEC-Mitsubishi).
- Sustain the Project: First, Kyle and I want to begin transferring more ISIS leadership roles to our brilliant and talented team of younger folks…my old age is starting to show:) Second, I will be continuing to work with the administration and Mr. Batson to make sure we have ample funding for this year, and continue to develop the long term plan of how we can institutionalize the Events at Stanford project beyond this year. Third, I want to pursue aggressive brainstorming on next projects that we can collaborate on together.
2) How do you want to grow in the process/what do you want to learn?
I am accustomed to developing finite-time products and events. These include single day art festivals and concerts, electronic products that you develop and then sell, and music albums that you work on for weeks and then suddenly it’s done and burned on a plastic disc for eternity. Bottom line: once it’s done, it’s done. Offering an always-on service like Events at Stanford, that by nature requires new content, new updates, constant attention, and is wide open for wrenches to be tossed in the gears is something I have never done at the level of production that we need to achieve. So I am intrigued by what we will learn in the next few moths about operating and improving such a beast.
3) How is it fun/what excites you?
I love working with our team. I love the thrill of brainstorming new ideas, and I am excited to be at a point in the project where we can begin to tackle new challenges- the Blender, Groups@Stanford, etc. ISIS is a great opportunity to play with a lot of neat technology amongst a fascinating group of individuals in a totally welcoming and collaborative environment. But really, I’m just excited that when I visit events.stanford.edu, I now discover cool things I wouldn’t have ever know about before. That is very cool.
